[edit] DESCRIPTION

The murder mystery is a Neopolitan original titled "Who Killed Captain Impervious?" Think a combination of Clue, Poirot, Inspector Gadget, with a Neopolis-esque setting and you've got the general idea! There is Captain Impervious, a high-level Band member who decides to host a gala event, to which he has invited many elite members of Neopolitan society, both League and Banders alike. Unfortunately, Captain Impervious is murdered mere minutes after the start of the event and his body discovered by a young, up-and-coming villainness. Countless accusations are thrown as each character begins to reveal their hero/villain identities. And thus begins the mystery, as police officers, detectives, heroes and villains struggle to discover the murderer before the night is over and--here's the kicker--before someone else winds up dead!

[edit] ACT ONE

  • The play opens with CAPTAIN ROBERT BROWN and PATRICK THE FIRST MATE drinking merrily in a bar, when they overhear RUSTY THE GARDENER and FLORA DeLUSCIOUS plotting something dastardly. The household servants soon leave in order to return in time for Captain Impervious' soiree; the tipsy seamen, determined to do some vigilant good, follow in their hover sailboat.
  • Introduction of Impervious manor. WANDSWORTH THE BUTLER is giving MYSTIC MADAME a tour of the mansion; below, CAPTAIN IMPERVIOUS welcomes his other guests. Meanwhile, MRS WINTHROP is teaching THE MAIDS: she gives instructions and describes each of the guests in turn as they appear through the front doors. CAPTAIN IMPERVIOUS explains his reason for summoning everyone here tonight, even old enemies: he wants to bridge divides in Neopolis, and has a grand scholarship to offer to one of his guests in that regard.
  • The guests drift off to their respective quarters. OFF-SCREEN, CAPTAIN IMPERVIOUS IS MURDERED. His hollers wake everyone up.
  • The body is discovered, and YVETTE becomes hysterical. She faints.
  • CAPTAIN BROWN and PATRICK arrive at the same time as the police (CLOPEAU/PIRETTE/GIDGET). The inspectors branch off to examine the scene of the crime, and squabble amongst themselves.
  • Before the sailors can impart their valuable knowledge, COLONEL CALAMITY recognises the captain from an old rivalry. Thetwo fight, swords and all.
  • MYSTIC MADAME also becomes hysterical and suddenly predicts more murders. No one really listens to her, but at least it breaks up the fight. During this lull, the guests are urgedto return to their rooms while the police investigate.
  • In the dead of night, LA CHATTE NOIRE & MONSIEUR MOREAU bump into each other while trying to break into Impervious' office. A sexually charged battle of wits ensues. WANDSWORTH comes across them and sends them back to their respective rooms.
  • In the morning, A SECOND MURDER IS DISCOVERED: Maid #2 (Jenny). It seems she had stumbled across someone in the kitchen -- and possibly surprised the murderer?
  • LE MASQUE vows to get to the bottom of this, MR PERTINACIOUS scoffs over the hero's so-called skills. The men argue. COLONEL CALAMITY and THE REVERSE REVEREND both get in on this, and a brawl almost breaks out.
  • THE CRIMSON LADY & her sidekick DOTTY are both snooping around, looking for documents -- in the library, they find suspicious headlines collected by Impervious regarding MS GRIEVOUS' past husbands. There are indications that she was in grave debt.
  • In the meantime, DAME FINCH & MS GRIEVOUS are having tea together. They feed SKIP, Impervious' dog, and express veiled pity that the poor dear is now left alone. Each one of them seems to be trying to one-up the other in saintly compassion. DAWSON THE CHEF prepares the buffet table in the background.
  • Just as the sailors recall their purpose and try to inform the others about the gardener & plant lady's nefarious scheme, LOBLAW THE LAWYER bursts in on lunch with the guests. He reveals that PEONY PEACH is Impervious' illegitimate daughter, and that he knows the location of Impervious' secret will which bequeaths most of his fortune to the girl. MYSTIC MADAME predicts more deaths.

CURTAIN DROPS.

[edit] ACT TWO

  • Act two opens with GEORGIANA & PEONY PEACH discussing their new prospects, now that they know of Impervious' will.
  • In another room, YVETTE tries to seduce LOBLAW for more information about the location of this will. The lawyer successfully holds out, then goes to join the others for afternoon tea.
  • THE REVERSE REVEREND, however, is not above falling for YVETTE's seductive charms.
  • In one fell swoop in the garden, PEONY is almost crushed by a falling statue -- in the middle of tea, however, LOBLAW is successfully killed (poison).
  • DAWSON THE CHEF is taken into custody under suspicion of poison.
  • Roused from their drunken stupor, the sailors finally explain to the INSPECTORS that RUSTY & FLORA were in cahoots. The gardener & plant woman admit to killing the lawyer, but not Impervious himself -- they escape in a breakneck carchase on the cliffside. But the brakes have been cut! And they both die. The murderer has struck again.
  • After an in-depth background check on the guests, LA CHATTE NOIRE is revealed to be long-lost wife of a big-name BHH hero in Neopolis, and has been sleeping with LE MASQUE, MR PERTINACIOUS, and BIG EDDIE. They all discover that they are missing hundreds of dollars and valuable trinkets.
  • TRIPLETTE #1 dies via chemical explosion (murder 6), and CACKILDA KOOK is taken in under suspicion. She has a nervous breakdown and screams about how she needed Impervious' grant money to complete her experiments.
  • Domestic servant scene: WANDSWORTH & MRS WINTHROP debate and agree that KOOK wasn't at all capable of murdering Impervious & co. Ever the manipulator, WANDSWORTH sends YVETTE to talk to the inspectors and get more juicy information out of them. As an aside, both WANDSWORTH & WINTHROP declare that they don't trust the other, and suspect they might be up to something. Once again, SKIP is fed.
  • The reporter LINDA LANE barges into the mansion, having discovered something crucial!!! She tries to go to inspectors with information, but is consistently distracted by BIG EDDIE,DAME FINCH, YVETTE and LE MASQUE in turn, as she possesses secrets on them all. She accidentally outs LE MASQUE's secret identity, and informs GEORGIANA that YVETTE was Impervious' current lover.
  • In a spate of jealous rage, GEORGIANA tries to kill YVETTE. The MOBSTERS save her. TRIPLETTE #2, however, is taken out by the house's security system -- it seems someone familiar with Impervious' security system had altered its settings. The remaining TRIPLETTE enters unconsolable grief.
  • PIRETTE lays a trap for the murderer. CLOPEAU accidentally sabotages it, and GIDGET's gadgets backfire.
  • MS GRIEVOUS attempts to leave the mansion -- MONSIEUR MOREAU stops her, having recognised her clumsy thieving of the silverware a few hours earlier. She might be in extreme debt, but it seems she was only planning to rob Impervious, not kill him.
  • LINDA LANE finally manages to meet with the inspectors, bearing extremely important information from Impervious personal gadget-builder. They release DAWSON THE CHEF, who returns in order to help lure the murderer in a proper trap........... with a special dish. SECRET INGREDIENT? DOG TREATS.
  • In an epic denouement, they activate the voice collar of SKIP THE DOG, and he is revealed to be the evil mastermind behind the slew of murders at Impervious mansion. With his intricate knowledge of his master's habits and history and manor, the dog planned to inherit Impervious' millions, then dispose of anyone who might have obtained Impervious' scholarship.
  • In short: it was the Dog -- with the Laserbeams attached to his collar -- in the Captain's Secret Subterranean Lair. COLONEL CALAMITY, with his great hunting skills, takes down the diabolical dog with some well-placed tranquilizers just as it tries to escape. All rejoice. Some money goes to PEONY; the rest is donated to several ELE & BHH charities.
  • MONSIEUR MOREAU & LA CHATTE NOIRE escape across the rooftops together, carrying bags filled with expensive artifacts from Impervious' home.

CURTAIN DROP.
