DESCRIPTION: A largely practical adventuring course tailored towards those interested in a) swashbuckling, b) derring-do, c) being polite to the natives, and d) saving the day while maintaining a stiff upper lip. The three months will cover a variety of concepts and practices in outdoors exploration and mapfinding, extricating oneself from a tangled and dangerous situation, and successfully communicating with (and learning from) foreign natives. The reading list will include first-hand journal accounts from various expeditions, and select short passages from Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days, The Mysterious Island, Sir H. Rider Haggard's King Solomon's Mines, Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton's The Coming Race, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. Extra points awarded for politesse and etiquette throughout the course.
