Experiments with Ancient Artefacts: Cursed, Forbidden, or Otherwise
From Neopolis
SECTION: Specialised Course
AVAILABLE TO: Magic, 3rd years, ambitious 2nd years
TEACHER: Dean Zaccheus Odd [DOCTOR ODD]
DESCRIPTION: This exclusive course will provide in-depth firsthand experience with forbidden artefacts otherwise barred from most first- and second-year classes, as well as an overview of some of the most important magical archaeological research of the civilizations of the ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome over the past two centuries of exploration. Such discoveries include the decipherment of cursed Egyptian hieroglyphics and Mesopotamian cuneiform, archaeological excavations of magical items at ancient sites such as Saqqara, Thebes and Amarna in Egypt, and Babylon, Nineveh and Ashur in Mesopotamia. The course will also briefly present the colourful travelers, antiquarians, and archaeologists who were responsible for these investigations (e.g. Sir Flinders Petrie, Champollion, The Spelunking Spartan, Leonard Woolley, Kathleen Kenyon, The Antiquarian), and overview some of the greatest disasters and Neopolitan events on record as influenced by magical artefacts.
The focus of this seminar is upon extremely dangerous material cultures, and as such, a certain degree of responsibility is expected whilst in the lab. All students must sign a damage waiver before embarking upon the field trips.
